Why clutter a beautiful sink, like this one from Axor, with poor options that do little or nothing for your skin nor sanity? It’s more cost effective to invest in products that actually work, even if you have to pay a little more for them. If you can, go one up and treat yourself to something you really enjoy using, whether because of its rich texture, stress-dissolving scent or even packaging that aligns with your aesthetic sensitivities.

Series 9000 Prestige Electric Shaver, Philips
We’re willing to trade our razor blades in for this electric shaver because it actually delivers the close shave and smooth glide that others merely promise. Its tri-rotary shaver heads, each equipped with NanoTech precision blades, slice facial hairs close to the skin with next to no irritation. In just a couple of minutes, you’re ready to face the day with no unsightly redness.
Available at select retailers for $599. Photo: Philips
Gentle Milk Cleanser, Aesop
This cream cleanser does away with detergents such as sodium lauryl sulphate that can cause skin irritation. Instead, it uses a blend of botanically-extracted esters and oils to gently dissolve grime and gunk. Panthenol further conditions the skin to leave it feeling supple and moisturised after each wash. Another thing we look forward to when we start our routine are the soothing scents of sandalwood and lavender in the formula.
Available at Aesop for $70 (200ml). Photo: Aesop
Treatment Lotion, La Mer
This elixir is formulated to be absorbed readily by the skin, so as to effectively energise and replenish it with La Mer’s signature Miracle Broth without leaving a heavy film on the skin. The way to use this nutrient-rich essence made with fermented kelp extract, vitamins and minerals is to first warm up an appropriate amount between the palms and then gently press it onto cleansed skin.
Available at La Mer counters for $220 (150ml). Photo: La Mer
Inner Charging Serum, Sulwhasoo Men
Harnessing the powers of traditional Korean medicine, one of our favourite serums works to neutralise environmental damage, boost moisture and restore resilience to tired and ageing skin. Whether you prefer to use the serum in your morning or bedtime routine, we suggest giving it a good whiff before gently massaging it into your skin. The combined scents of pine, camphor and sandalwood do a good job of calming the nerves.

Gentling Emulsion, THREE
Cherry, apple and cranberry fruit waters give the skin an antioxidant-rich moisture boost, while oils of olive, jojoba and moringa effectively protect it from environmental damage. The lightweight emulsion can be used as a moisturiser on its own or layered over serums to lock in the nutrients and protect the skin at the same time. You can also use it under sunscreen if you’re planning to spend the day outdoors.
Available at THREE counters for $109 (100ml). Photo: THREE
100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30, Soleil Toujours
Besides employing a safer and more effective zinc oxide as a mineral sunscreen, this product is also infused with the brand’s EcoSun Complex® which protects, soothes and nourishes the skin with a blend of powerful antioxidants. The best part is that this velvety formula blends well into the skin, leaving a natural and healthy-looking mien instead of an unnatural white cast.
