The evolution of timepieces from mere tool watches to status symbols has allowed for men to own a variety of timepieces. Like the gent who has the right shoes for every occasion, the modern man should be well-equipped on his wrist just as much. Dress watches come in a wide range – from the type of material used for the bracelet or the strap to the dial layout, there’s a host of options to choose from.
Baume et Mercier‘s newest offering is just one of the many examples of dress watches. The Clifton Automatic Big Date and Power Reserve 10205 is a modern take on dress pieces however. Clean cut traditional aesthetics combined with a hint of contemporary functionality in the power reserve indicator, the timepiece slides under a cuff subtly like a good dress watch should. The DNA of the brand is obvious in the piece; elegance and legibility being the key factors in Baume et Mercier’s collection. At 43mm, the new addition to the Clifton range boasts a polished and satin-finished stainless steel case that is powered by a mechanical self-winding calibre that boasts a power reserve of 40-odd hours that can be kept track of via the indicator at six o’clock, unconventional for dress pieces. The Clifton Automatic Big Date and Power Reserve 10205 is also water-resistant to 50 metres and sits handsomely on the wrist thanks to a square-scale brown alligator leather strap that is fastened by a triple folding buckle.
