The KUKA robot is not something the average gent might be familiar with.

While the iconic orange and black-tinged robot is used heavily in the manufacturing industry (particularly the automotive industry), and is perhaps best known for its precision, strength, and speed, the general public is likely never to have met one. As far as the robots go, there wasn’t a wearable version for your wrist – at least, not until SEVENFRIDAY came along with the KUKA series that first debuted in 2013.

After having sold more than 3,600 pieces of the first two iterations, it seems that the third time’s the charm. Landing on our shores just last month was the third iteration of the SEVENFRIDAY KUKA series and we’ve no doubt it will follow the same sold out pattern as the previous two.

The P3/07 KUKA III sees the same orange and black patterns but in an updated watch, featuring a 47mm x 47.6mm “squir-cle” case with rounded corners, bringing to mind the CRT televisions of the past. It also boasts a dial of six layers of orange and gun metal discs. The case and bezel are made of stainless steel, while a hardened mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating covers the dial. Also, an orange hour hand filled with Super-Luminova, and white minute indicators contribute towards reinforcing the watch’s aesthetic appeal.

As to why a third addition of the series, SEVENFRIDAY CEO and Co-Founder Dan Niederer rebuked, “Why not?! The orange robot inspiration has always been a fan favourite and the KUKA III allows to continue to tell this aspect of the #liveSEVENFRIDAY story.”

The watch runs on the Japanese Miyota 8287 automatic movement, with a 40-hour power reserve. It proves easy to read too – gun metal stands for daylight hours, while orange represents night time hours. However, bold and stylish as it looks, the timepiece is only able to tackle waters till 30 metres deep. But unless you intend to take it with you for your watersports, that’s not something you have to worry about.

Instead, you should start worrying about the only actual drawback – SevenFriday will only be releasing 750 pieces of the limited production KUKA III.

SEVENFRIDAY timepieces are available at the newly opened SEVENFRIDAY Space in Raffles City, Red Army Watches (Millenia Walk, ATRIX, e-shop: www.redarmywatches.com) and Krasnaya (ION Orchard).
