The modern-day founder of A. Lange & Söhne, Walter Lange, passed away earlier this year during the days of SIHH itself. The great-grandson of Ferdinand A. Lange was 93 when he passed away and left behind a legacy that saw the reinvigoration of German watchmaking as he brought his great-grandfather’s company back to life with a little help from the great Günter Blümlein. To commemorate his death, A. Lange & Söhne has released for pre-SIHH, the 1815 Homage to Walter Lange.
Firstly, yes. That’s a steel A. Lange & Söhne with a black dial. But before you start thinking about re-remortgaging the house, do note that it’s a unique piece, meaning it’ll only be on the wrist of someone after an auction to charity or something later on next year. Even then, that’s still speculation.
Secondly, the new collection features an all new mechanical movement by the brand and made much much more interesting, given that it boasts a unique deadbeat seconds complication. We’ve yet to see the timepiece in person but this stoppable jumping seconds hand complication as we know it, can be used for informal timing of events. The watches (besides the lovely one in steel) will be available in 27 for the yellow gold case, 145 pieces in white gold, and 90 in pink gold.
